Most wedding money goes out in two waves: deposits when you book vendors, often within the first few months, and final balances in the last weeks before the date. Couples who plan around the total alone can find the deposit wave arrives before the savings do, even when the overall budget is affordable.

This planner takes your total budget, an average deposit percentage, what you have saved, what you add each month and what family is contributing. It estimates the cash the deposit wave will take, the monthly savings needed to cover the rest, and whether your current pace lands you on track or short by the wedding. It is a straight line projection with no interest, no fees and no surprises modeled.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter your total wedding budget and the average deposit percentage your vendors require at booking.
  2. Add the months left, what you have saved, what you contribute each month and what family has pledged.
  3. Read the deposit cash needed, the monthly target, and the status line to see if the plan holds.

What the math assumes

  • Deposits are treated as due right away and must come from cash already saved; family contributions are only counted toward final balances, since their timing varies.
  • The default 25% average deposit is a placeholder, not a market figure; read your contracts and enter the real blended percentage.
  • Monthly contributions are added at the same amount every month with no interest earned and no months skipped.
  • The total budget is spent in full and does not change between now and the wedding, so overruns are not modeled.
  • When the wedding is 0 months away, the monthly savings figure is shown as 0 because there is no time left to save.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the planner say deposits exceed my cash when the overall plan is on track?

Deposits are due at booking, long before your monthly savings finish accumulating. Being on track for the total does not help if the venue wants a deposit next week, so the planner flags that timing gap first.

How do I find my average deposit percentage?

Add up the deposits listed in your signed or proposed contracts, divide by the sum of those contract totals, and multiply by 100. If you have not booked anyone yet, use the percentage your venue asks for as a starting point.

Should I include a contingency in the total budget?

Yes. Put the full amount you are willing to spend, including any cushion, in the total budget so the monthly target and status line reflect the real ceiling.
